A Novel Metasurface-based Low-RCS Fabry-Perot Cavity Antenna

Abstract:A metasurface-based Fabry-Perot cavity (FPC) antenna is presented for in-band radar cross section reduction (RCSR) associated with improved radiation performance. A meta-surface comprised of an array of metallic square loops operating at 2.45 GHz is designed for fully substrate integrated low-profile FPC antennas. Compared to conventional patch antennas, the in-band RCS of the proposed metasurface-based FPC antenna is significantly reduced by 30 dB at 2.46 GHz while the boresight realized gain is increased by 0.8 dB and the absorption efficiency is enhanced by 10%. Good agreement between the measured and simulated results validates the feasibility of the analysis and design approach.
