An Optimized Inductor Current Control for Intermediate Bus Converter with Hybrid-Switching Structure

This paper proposes a simplified intermediate bus converter with hybrid-switching structure. It is derived from a two-stage dc-dc converter which consists of a four-switch buck-boost (FSBB) converter and a half bridge LLC (HBLLC) converter. The proposed converter saves one bridge leg (two power switches), and the output voltage could be well regulated with fixed switching frequency in a wide input voltage range. It is found that, for minimizing the inductor current ripple, the two high-side switches in the bridge legs should be simultaneously trailing-edge modulated or leading-edge modulated. Based on this, an optimized inductor current control, in which the modulation scheme changes with the input voltage, is further proposed to reduce the root-mean-square (RMS) value of the inductor current for saving conduction loss. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, a 36-75 V input hybrid-switching intermediate bus converter was built in the lab.
