Abstract:A method was established to evaluate low-velocity impact damage of composite material by constructing a simulation analysis model for the whole process of composite material starting from initial low-velocity impact damage to compressive damage through writing the subroutine of VUMAT based on the 3D Hashin criterion and Cohesive interface element, considering the diversity of composite material's damage modes and avoiding problems of choosing and simplifying damage characterization parameters. Both composite material low-velocity impact tests and compression tests after impact were conducted. The test results were compared with those of simulation in three aspects of impact response, damage level and residual strength. They agreed well with each other. It was shown that the constructed model can effectively evaluate the low-velocity impact damage of composite material. Finally, the effects of impact energy and impact angle on damage were explored using this model. © 2019, Editorial Office of Journal of Vibration and Shock. All right reserved.
