Modeling and Experimental Study on the Current Harmonics of a High Power Ultrasonic Motor

Abstract:This paper mainly focuses on studying the current harmonics of a V-shape ultrasonic motor under high power driving. The experimental measurements show that the major components of the steady-state current are the first, second harmonics and DC component. The first current harmonic increases with the raised voltage until reaching saturation, while the second harmonic current increases rapidly. The existing linear models are unable to adequately explain the harmonics. In the study, a novel equivalent circuit model including a nonlinear capacitance is proposed to describe the nonlinear behavior of the ultrasonic motor. The simulation results are agreed well with experimental results, confirming the effectiveness of our proposed model. This model is also useful to describe the current harmonics of the piezoelectric transducer, transformer and actuator driven under high power driving. © 2018 IEEE.
