  • Abstract:Basic magnesium sulfate cement (BMS) has many advantages such as fast-setting, early strength, high strength, resistance to water and corrosion resistance, and so on. In order to explore the difference in performance between BMS concrete and conventional RC large eccentric column, the static experiments of sixteen BMS concrete columns were conducted. The results show that large eccentricity compression column of BMS has 20% higher values of cracking moment and the ultimate capacity compared with conventional RC column. There is no difference in terms of failure mode observed between the BMS concrete columns and the conventional RC columns under eccentric compression. In addition, when the eccentricity of BMS concrete column is large, the bearing capacity of BMS concrete columns can be improved with the increase of the compressive strength of BMS concrete. It is also found that the existing empirical equations in GB 50010-2010 are not suitable for the large-eccentric BMS concrete columns. So the calculation formula is modified. © 2018, Editorial Office of Journal of Building Structures. All right reserved.
