Dr Liu Kui currently is a Distinguished Professor and PhD Supervisor at the College of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), China. He received his BEng and MEng degrees from NUAA in 1989 and 1996, and PhD degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2002. Before joining NUAA in 2025, he was a Principal Scientist at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and Group Head of the Machining Technology Group, Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), co-director of SIMTech-NUS Joint Laboratory on Large Format Machining, and co-director of SIMTech-NTU (Nanyang Technological University) Joint Laboratory on Ultra-Precision Machining, focusing on ultra-precision machining, intelligent manufacturing and novel machining technology development.

Professor Liu has been conducting both academic research and industry-orientated research. As a PI and Co-PI, he has succesfully secured 67 extramural funds with total grants around SGD47M from the Singapore government agencies and industries including Applied Materials, Royce-Rolls, Schlumberger, Seiko Instrument, TechnipFMC, AvanStrate Asia, NH-Techno, Hitachi Metal, Hitachi Chemical, Sembcorp Marine Technology, Fu Yu Corporation, Reservoir Product MFG, Delta Optics Technologies, Triumph Lead, Moveon Technology, Wavelength Technology, etc. and few technologies developed have been licensed and implemented by the Singapore local industry. He has authored and co-authored 2 monography and 1 conference e-proceeding, and 6 book chapters, published 200 papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, of which 6 journal papers have been selected as Highlights the Best of A*STAR, Singapore. Google Scholar citation to-date: 5530, h-index: 42 and i10-index: 79. Scopus citation to-date: 3700, h-index: 38 and i10-index: 71.

Professor Liu has filed 6 patents in USA, Singapore and China, and 27 technical disclosures in Singapore, so far delivered 404 keynotes and invited talks on the international conferences, served as the conference co-chair, organizing committee chair, scientific committee co-chair, and session chair of few international conferences 38 times including ASPEN, nanoMan, ISAAT, ICOMM, ICMM, etc. He is also serving as an editorial board member of serval prestigious international journals like the International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing (IF 21.3), Nanomanufacturing and Metrology (IF 4.5), Machines (IF 2.5) and Diamond & Abrasives Engineering (IF 0.8), and an external reviewer of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). He is a Board Member of the Asian Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (ASPEN), Active Member of the International Abrasives Technology Committee (ICAT) and Japanese Society of Precision Engineering (JSPE), Corporate Representative Member of the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen), and Senior Member of the Society of Engineers (SME). He also won some outstanding awards such as IOP Outstanding Reviewer (2022), NMME Excellent Editor (2021), IJEM Excellent Reviewer (2019), SIMTech Best Research Achievement (2018), A*STAR Aerospace Program Achievement (2016), SIMTech Best Industrial Achievement (2011, 2007), WorldSkills Competition (Singapore) Long Service (2011), and SIMTech sole nomination of PSTA (2010).
