Abstract:This paper proposed a method to minimize the cogging torque of a transverse flux permanent magnet motor (TFPMM) by shifting its rotor teeth. Fourier series analysis was utilized to analyze the expression of cogging torque, and then an analytic formula of the shifting angle was offered. However, due to the motor’s special structure, the leakage flux and the fact that each phase of the motor was not completely decoupled, the result was just only approximate. To get the exact angle, the finite element method (FEM) was adopted to make modification. Finally, the impacts of the method was studied and it could be drawn a conclusion that the optimization method can significantly reduce the cogging torque and improve the torque ripple. And, in consideration of the structure of transverse flux motor, the problem of reducing the motor output torque caused by the optimization of the motor was solved by increasing the tooth width. © 2018 Chin.
