Abstract:For high voltage (HV) power supplies such as HV ignitors, laser power supplies and so on, safety and high voltage gain are two main issues. This paper proposes an S/P compensated contactless converter with voltage multiplier (VM) for high voltage ignition. Due to the characteristics of contactless power transfer (CPT) and the inherent high voltage gain of the S/P compensated contactless converter, the proposed solution features high safety and high voltage gain without large turns-ratio requirement. The equivalent circuit of the proposed converter is then derived along with the detailed characteristics analysis during different operation modes. To limit the current and voltage stress of primary winding during ignition state, current limiting strategy by detuning the operation frequency is thus presented. Finally, a 60V input/3870V output prototype is constructed with the turns-ratio of 1:4.38. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of theoretical analysis.
