Effect of inlet velocity profile on flow field characteristics of a bluff body

Abstract:Experiments are carried out to investigate the flow field characteristic of a bluff body with four inlet velocity profiles, namely h/H = 0, 3/6, 4/6 and 5/6, where h/H describes the shape of the velocity peak. The experimental results indicate that the recirculation zone is approximately symmetric including dual-vortex under the condition of uniformity inlet velocity (h/H = 0), whereas it is asymmetric and two vortices centers appear gradually in each vortex zone when the position of non-uniform velocity peak, h/H rises. The inlet velocity distribution has significant effects on the development of the recirculation zone, that the flow is drawn from one vortex core into another. Besides, characteristic length scale, Lvc increases with the increase of h/H. © Asia-Pacific Conference on Combustion, ASPACC 2019.All right reserved.
