Application of laser ultrasonic technique for non-contact detection of high temperature metal surface imperfections

摘要:Experimental investigation of the detection of high temperature metal surface imperfections is discussed. An experimental system was built, which in a non-contact mode, by utilizing a point laser source to generate the surface acoustic wave (SAW), and an interferometer to detect the SAW signal. The feature of laser generated SAW interaction with the defect is analyzed. The experimental results show that the transmission coefficients decrease monotonously with the defect depth increases. The relationship between transmission coefficients and the defect depth can be applied to the quantitative characterization of surface-breaking defects. The research achievements provide a potential application for detecting surface defects on metal at high temperatures.
