In conventional bearingless switched reluctance motors (BSRMs), some transducers should be installed to detect the rotor angle position and the shaft radial displacements to implement the rotation and magnetic levitation simultaneously. In order to improve the integration and reliability of BSRMs, the self-sensing method of the rotor angle position and radial displacements is investigated in this paper. The rotor angle position and radial displacements of BSRMs are estimated simultaneously through injecting a series of high-frequency voltage pulses into main windings of inactive phases. According to the relationship between the induced-current slope and the inductance, the real-time distribution of inductances could be obtained. As a result, the real-time angle position of BSRMs can be estimated. Meanwhile, mutual inductances can be obtained by detecting the induced electromotive force of levitation windings. Therefore, the radial displacements can also be calculated according to the relationship between the mutual inductances and radial displacements. Therefore, the proposed method can estimate the rotor angle position and radial displacements at the same time only by injecting one series of high-frequency voltage pulses into main windings.
