Abstract:Weave bead welding was employed to join Invar alloy plates. Excellent fusion formations were produced at the side walls of the groove and the inter-layers without any clearly observed defects, such as holes, inclusions or macro-cracks. Mn and Si are segregated in the base metal, while homogeneously distributed in the weld. The Ni content decreased while the Fe content increased in weld seam. All tensile specimens suffered a ductile fracture and the strength of the weld bead was as superior as base metal. The fracture surface was composed by equiaxed dimples. The micro-hardness of weld and metal in heat-affected zone was lower than that of base metal.(C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
