Abstract:To explore the application of bitumen modified sulfur concrete (BMSC) in structures, shear performance tests were carried out for 14 pieces of BMSC beam to test the deflection, bearing capacity, crack propagation, stirrup, and concrete strain of the beam under a static load. The experimental results show different destruction modes in common concrete beam made from a different material and BMSC beam. Compared with the common concrete beam, the BMSC beam has advantages on aspects such as cracking load (the cracking moment is about 10%). With an increase of the strength of BMSC, the crack resistance and shear capacity of beam increase, resulting in minimal deformation; however, its ductility decreases. The present formulas for calculating the shear stiffness and deflection of common concrete beams are applicable to BMSC beams, but the formulas for calculating the bearing capacity and crack width need to be modified. The experimental results show that BMSC beams can withstand oblique section destruction. © 2018, Editorial Department of Journal of HEU. All right reserved.
