High microwave attenuation performance of planar carbonyl iron particles with orientation of shape anisotropy field

  • Abstract:Planar anisotropy carbonyl iron (PACI) particles were prepared from commercial spherical carbonyl iron particles through a high performance ball-milling technique. The paraffin composites with orientation of shape anisotropy field for these PACI particles were obtained by applying an external magnetic field during the fabrication process. The frequency-dependent complex permeability values of these prepared paraffin composites have been investigated in the frequency range of 1-18 GHz. The results demonstrate that the orientation of shape anisotropy field for these PACI particles can effectively increase the complex permeability and decrease the complex permittivity values. Benefit from the enhancement in the complex permeability and reduction in the complex permittivity, the better impedance matching condition can be obtained and thus the good microwave absorption performance can be achieved for the samples with enough magnetic field orientation time.
