Abstract:This paper proposes a retro-reflective scheme of wireless power transmission in fully enclosed environments. In this scheme, the power transfer system consists of a single transmitter and a reconfigurable reflecting array with each element loaded with a switchable reactive element. The power receiver first broadcasts a pilot signal and the power transmitter records the power level of the received pilot signal while reconfiguring the reactive loads through all possible combinations. The optimal load combination is determined to be the one with the maximum transmission efficiency. Then the power is transmitted with the reflecting array configured with the optimal load combination. Simulation and measurement results are provided showing that the proposed scheme improves the power transmission efficiency significantly. © 2019 IEEE.
