关键字:Red Blood Cells Aggregation Bifurcation Wall Shear Stress Cell-Free Layer
摘要:Under some pathological conditions such as infected by malaria, red blood cells (RBCs) form aggregates or rouleaux in blood, leading to a change of the hemodynamical behavior of blood flow in microvascular system. To qualify the rheological phenomena of RBC aggregates in bifurcated microvessels via numerical simulation, we developed a general framework for multiphase blood flow that is effective for complex flow region. We then performed systematic two-dimensional simulation to investigate dynamics of RBC aggregates in arterioles with bifurcations. The blood flow was controlled by the pressure gradient at a fixed value of periodic boundary conditions, while the cell aggregates were travelling in the arteriole under the influence of plasma flow. We simulated with different cell membrane stiffness and aggregating strength in symmetric as well as asymmetric bifurcated microvessel. Our simulation study predicted the influence of these parameters on the flow rate in each branches. The wall shear stress (WSS) variation and cell-free layer (CFL) in the parent channel were also examined. The present model has the potential to be applied to the numerical investigation of complex blood flow in the microcirculatory system.
