Abstract:This paper presents formulae of the residual errors of S-parameter measurements derived for multiport vector network analyzers (VNAs) calibrated by non-ideal TRM (Through-Reflect-Match) calibration standards. Using the concepts of general error terms and general nodes, the generalized error correction equation for multiport VNA measurements based on 4N-term error model was deduced by matrix operation. With the non-ideal factors of TRM calibrators taken into account, the deviations of error terms contributed by a particular imprecise calibration standard were obtained. Combining the generalized error correction equation and the derived error terms, the measurement residuals of a four-port balanced filter were analyzed. The correctness of the proposed algorithm was validated by the secondary error correction process. © 2017 IEEE.
