Abstract:This paper proposes a novel fault tolerant inverter topology for the high reliability of the dual-stator doubly salient electro-magnet machine (DSEM), and thus maintaining the undegraded output performance after the open-circuit or short-circuit fault. The proposed topology adopts the diverter switches to reconnect the floating phase windings, and reconfigures the dual-inverter to be the five-leg inverter. The operation principle and optimized commutation method for five-leg inverter is analyzed to eliminate the unexpected phase current drop in order to improve the torque performance in the fault tolerant mode. Simulation and experimental results verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the fault tolerant topology and control methods for dual-stator DSEM.
