Dual-chirp microwave waveform generation for radar application based on an optically injected semiconductor laser

Abstract:A photonic-based dual-chirp linear frequency modulated (LFM) microwave waveform generator is proposed based on an optically injected semiconductor laser. A dual-chirp LFM waveform can be used in a radar system to improve its range-Doppler resolution. A proof of experiment is taken. A dual-chirp LFM signal with frequency range of 13.4-20.5 GHz and a time duration of 2 μs is realized. © 2018 IEEE.
