Abstract:The matrix lightweight porous reticulated materials (matrix LPRMs) were fabricated with fly ash, alumina and andalusite by the polymer sponge replica technique. Further, the matrix LPRMs were immersed in recoated slurries for vacuum infiltrated process, followed by sintering at 1400 °C to obtain vacuum infiltrated lightweight porous reticulated materials (vacuum infiltrated LPRMs). The rheological behavior, microstructure, composition of phases and mechanical properties of the matrix LPRMs and vacuum infiltrated LPRMs were examined. The results confirmed that andalusite had a positive influence on the mechanical properties, microstructure and thermal shock stability of the lightweight porous reticulated materials. Finally, the effect of the amount of andalusite added on the residual stress of the lightweight porous reticulated material been studied by a calculated model. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd
