Abstract:The 5-Degree-Of-Freedom (5-DOF) magnetic levitation technique can further increase the power density of driving systems in aircraft applications. The conical bearingless switched reluctance motor (CBSRM) can generate the axial force due to its conical rotor structure, thus it can be adopted to remove the axial magnetic bearing in the 5-DOF magnetic levitation system. In this paper, a flexible control method of axial force for CBSRMs is proposed. Under two-phase operation mode, the currents of two normal conducted phases are divided into different parts to regulate the levitation forces and torque. In addition, the negative torque generated by the two-phase excitation is also reduced by regulating the torque current. The simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink verify the demonstrated performance. © 2018 IEEE.
