Abstract:To mitigate the negative impact of the feed network of active frequency selective surfaces (AFSSs), a novel optically controlled AFSS (OCAFSS) is proposed and a sample design based on Jerusalem cross slot is validated in this paper. Employing silicon wafers, the OCAFSS possess the capability of controlling microwave signals by light without any feed network. The simulation results are shown that the proposed OCAFSS's resonant frequency is at 6.02 GHz (C band) with -3 dB bandwidth of 2.04 GHz. The OCAFSS's stable performance at different incident angles and polarizations are also demonstrated and analyzed in this paper. © 2018 IEEE.
